The Apple certificate tells MacOS 10.7.5 and 10.8 it is compatible with that software. I have OS X 10.8.5 version of MacBook Air. Also, Apple recently released an update to 10.7.5 that included this Gatekeeper feature. Since the Backup Plus line of drives and its software was released in the first part of July 2012 and 10.8 was not released until later in that same month, the software that was included with the drive did not have that certificate written into it.
